INGLÊS Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim ensured the clinical assistance in the running event, Corrida de S. Pedro , that concluded, on July 7, the traditional municipal festivities. This was the 34 th edition of one of the oldest road running events in the country , this year counting with the participation of nearly 2,300 people, who run along the streets and avenues of Póvoa, including the waterfront promenade. In the 10 km event, the winners were Bernardo Rocha (of Sport Comércio e Salgueiros, with the time of 29 m 44 s) and Susana Godinho (with the time of 33 m 16 s), who participated individually and is one of the athletes participating in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Paris. Besides the running event, there was also a solidary walking, of about 5 km long, the revenues going to the Póvoa Fire Brigade. The Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim team providing permanent assistance to the event , supported by the Volunteer Firefighters, included physician Pedro Coutinho , physiotherapists Joana Pinto and Vivian Afonso, nurse Joana Moutinho, and administrative technicians Patrícia Barros and Bruno Pinheiro. The S. Pedro Running is an event part of the national calendar of the Portuguese Athletics Federation, co-organized by Póvoa de Varzim City Hall and with the collaboration of Navais Sports and Cultural Centre, Porto Athletics Association, and the Regional Referees Council. Hospital da Luz expresses its appreciation to Póvoa de Varzim municipality and the organization – Bikeservice – for the invitation to participate once again in this initiative, that was a real success. The support to sports institutions and events is a valuable tool for Hospital da Luz in the fulfilment of one of its missions: the promotion of healthy lifestyles and prevention of disease, which necessarily includes the practise of physical exercise.
