Hospital da Luz Coimbra has available a Breast Centre, equipped with all the means necessary to treat diseases of the breast. The centre – in highlight in the latest edition of “Diário de Coimbra” – ensures a multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis, treatment and surveillance of breast diseases, by a team including physicians from different specialities and clinical areas , namely gynaecology-obstetrics, medical oncology, imaging, radio-oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardio-oncology, nutrition, and psycho-oncology. “The clinical cases of patients with breast pathology are analysed in meetings gathering specialists from the different areas of diagnosis and treatment. This way we can ensure that each patient is proposed the most adequate treatment for the specific case”, explains the coordinator of the new centre, Cristina Frutuoso , who is dedicated to oncological gynaecology. Furthermore, “Hospital da Luz Coimbra has the technology and professional team necessary and capable of responding to all variants of breast pathology, from screening to the follow-up of patients treated”, declares on its turn, Paulo Gil Agostinho , specialist in radiology. The Breast Centre is integrated in the Oncology Centre of this hospital. Access is initiated by the scheduling of a first consultation in Gynaecology, which is a priority consultation. The team of the Breast Centre includes nine physicians: besides Cristina Frutuoso and Paulo Gil Agostinho, Olga Caramelo , Paulo Aldinhas Santos , Sofia Raposo and Sofia Sousa Pedrosa (all specialists in gynaecology-obstetrics), Leonor Silva Pinto (medical oncology), Bruno Moura Fernandes (radio-oncology) and Carla Diogo (plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery). And according to cases, the team also counts with Carla Mendes (dermo-aesthetic technician), Beatriz Saldanha Santos (cardio-oncology) and Paula Lapa (nuclear medicine).
