Hospital da Luz Coimbra has taken on the sponsorship of Bernardo Tralhão, judo high-performance athlete. Under this sponsorship, the athlete benefits from specialized follow-up at the Sports Medicine Centre of this Hospital, thus reinforcing its support to sport and competitive excellence, also contributing to the development of national talents. Bernardo Tralhão: Is 23 years old and represents Coimbra ACM (Associação Cristã de Mocidade) since the age of four, there developing his whole sports training. Has already conquered several titles and distinctions along his sports path, presently asserting himself as one of the most promising judo athletes in the national under 60 kg category. Among his main achievements, the highlight goes to the titles of National senior champion, National university champion, and European university vice-champion , results that show his competitive consistency and international projection. More recently at international level, he achieved fifth in the 2026 Sofia European Open and seventh in the 2026 Linz Grand Prix, competitions that integrate the judo European and world circuit and gather highly competitive level athletes. The Hospital da Luz Coimbra Sports Medicine Centre is recognized by its integrated and multidisciplinary approach, gathering professionals from different areas namely sports medicine, orthopaedics, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, nutrition, psychology, and functional assessment. Its main goal is optimizing the physical performance of athletes, preventing injuries, and ensuring an effective recovery, through customized programs based on scientific evidence. The protocol of collaboration with Bernardo Tralhão was recently formalized between the athlete and the hospital’s administrator, Pedro Beja Afonso (both in the photo above). “This sponsorship offers the athlete access to differentiated clinical follow-up, ensured by a highly qualified multidisciplinary team capable to respond to the demands of high-level sport”, states the administrator. “The Hospital da Luz Coimbra Sports Medicine Centre is prepared to offer an integrated response, from prevention to high performance, to every athlete focused on optimization", he adds.
