Hospital da Luz Funchal and Associação Cultural, Desportiva e Recreativa de São Martinho signed, last November 3, a protocol to support the futsal team of this institution. Under the protocol, Hospital da Luz will also provide medical support to athletes , thus contributing for a safe practice of sport, as well as promoting healthy life styles. Based in Bairro da Nazaré, in Funchal, the ACDR São Martinho was established in 1998, with the purpose of disseminating and promoting the district, preserving and conveying popular and recreational wisdom. Starting this season, the association expanded its activity to more media-covered collective sports, such as futsal. The recently created team participates in the Madeira Division of Honour Futsal Championship 2022/2023. The premiere took place last October 29, at Camacha Sports Hall, against Pontassolense. ACDR São Martinho won by 4-3. The protocol was signed by Carlota Cavaco, director-general of Hospital da Luz Funchal, and André Candelária, the chairman of the board of ACDR São Martinho, in the presence of the athletes Max Pestana and Diogo Gouveia. “This partnership is vital for our implementation and sustenance as a sports club. Firstly, for the sportive financial and medical support, without which we would not be able to compete. Secondly, our association is connected with a leading group in the area of Health, having a vast curriculum in the support and promotion of sustainable sport, with unshakeable values and a strong social entrepreneurship, values that we also share and try to instil in our athletes”, said André Candelária, the president of ACDR São Martinho.
