Hospital da Luz Lisboa now has a follow-up consultation for patients who have been admitted to intensive care. This consultation aims to “ follow the patients who were in level III care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and who have risk factors for the development of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PCIS) ”, explains André Rosa Alexandre , one of the clinical responsible for this new service at Hospital da Luz Lisboa. The follow-up consultation in intensive care medicine preferably takes place between two and four weeks after hospital discharge and will make it possible to track the sequelae of hospitalization associated with PCIS, with the aim of identifying patients who “benefit from referral to rehabilitation programs and dedicated treatment”, advances that specialist. That’s why this is necessarily a multidisciplinary intervention, explains André Rosa Alexandre, as specialists from Hospital da Luz Lisboa in neurology, pulmonology, physical and rehabilitation medicine, nutrition, psychiatry and psychology, and speech therapy, are invited to participate in this follow-up. André Rosa Alexandre and Joana Mapril , both intensive care and internal medicine physicians at Hospital da Luz Lisboa and responsible for this consultation, explain that it is scheduled by the clinical team that accompanied the patient during his stay in the ICU , which thus has the opportunity to have “feedback on how this hospitalization went and identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the quality of the service provided”, adds the doctor. Meeting the most important and current international recommendations in this clinical area, the creation of the Intensive Care follow-up consultation at Hospital da Luz Lisboa “is another step taken in the excellence of the service provided to patients, thus contributing to the prestige and quality of our organization”, concludes André Rosa Alexandre. The new consultation is now working. The respective appointment is made directly by the Intensive Care Medicine team at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, which will provide each patient and their family with detailed information about this service.
