A team led by neurosurgeon Domingos Coiteiro , from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, performed the first surgery using intraoperative magnetic resonance in Portugal . The surgery, which took several hours, was performed in one of the new hybrid operating rooms at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, the only one in the country that has this new integrated equipment especially dedicated to neurosurgery. This equipment is, moreover, unique in Southern Europe. The new hybrid room now available in the Operating Room of Hospital da Luz Lisboa , which connects the operating room with neuronavigation to the room where the MRI is installed, increases responsiveness and surgical effectiveness, especially in cases of severe brain tumors, allowing neurosurgeons operate with images of the brain taken in real time. This first surgery took place on Tuesday, September 6, and was successfully completed by Domingos Coiteiro's team, which included neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and radiology technicians.
