It was nine days and many hours of work for the team of 20 health professionals from Hospital da Luz – comprising doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and massage therapists – who assisted the tennis players, the public and the Millennium Estoril Open staff, between the 1 st and 9 th April. Being the official medical provider of the tennis event for the 8 th consecutive year, Hospital da Luz set up two medical centres on the premises of Estoril Tennis Club: one destined to the tennis players (with physicians specialized in Sports Medicine, besides physiotherapists and massage therapists permanently available), and another one destined to the general public and elements of the teams and organization, with a doctor and a nurse, where over 150 persons were assisted. Both the tournament organization and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), which promotes and organizes the main tennis tournaments at world level, were, once again, quite satisfied with all the assistance provided by Hospital da Luz to the tennis players. It is worth noting that the Millennium Estoril Open is the only Portuguese tournament integrating the ATP circuit. The presence of Hospital da Luz professionals in this and other sports events, as well as the partnerships with national sporting clubs, emphasizes the investment of Luz Saúde Group on Sports Medicine and the promotion of health and welfare, where regular physical activity plays an essential role. At Hospital da Luz Lisboa, the Sports Medicine Center aims to meet that commitment, with its capacity to follow up clinically any exercise practitioner – recreational or high-performance athlete – throughout his sporting active life. The high investment made on premises, equipment and professionals allows to have presently available in this center: A 20 meters running track with sandbox; Swimming pools; High-end equipment, such as the AlterG – antigravity treadmill, used for instance in astronaut training – and the cryosauna, besides a series of biomechanical and biodynamical devices; A multidisciplinary team, with specialists in sports medicine, orthopaedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardiology, imaging and general surgery, as well as physiologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, psychologists, podiatrists, among others, focused on the performance, but also the rehabilitation and fast recovery of athletes. The 2024 edition of the Millennium Estoril Open is scheduled between March 30 and April 7. And Hospital da Luz will be, once again, the official medical service provider.
