Hospital da Luz Aveiro took over the official medical services to Galitos Club – Basketball. The agreement, recently established between the two institutions, provides the use of Hospital da Luz medical services by the basketball teams of the century-old club. Galitos Club: Was founded in the 25 January 1904, in Aveiro, as “an expression of the force, creativity and defiance of the associative movement of this city, in the early years of the 20 th century”, as explained by Jorge Naia, chairman of the board of the Basketball Section. Offers its members the practice of different modalities (besides basketball, track and field, rowing, swimming, cycling, chess, paddle) and the participation in national and international competitions, in several age divisions. Has great tradition in basketball, offering many children along successive generations the possibility to discover a passion for this modality, being one of the clubs with more athletes enrolled at national level (about 300) . The senior men’s team competes currently in the Basketball Pro-league of the North Zone 2022/23. “This partnership allows now access by the Galitos senior and junior teams to a diversified and highly specialized range of services and health professionals in our hospital, encouraging at the same time the practice of sport among the younger generations, which is fundamental for the adoption of healthy life habits”, highlights Pedro Beja Afonso, the administrator of Hospital da Luz Aveiro. For that matter, he reminds that this unit “offers a program of Sports Medicine, aiming not only to potentiate a better rehabilitation of athletes, but above all to promote a safe practice of sport throughout life”. “The Galitos Club never ceased to intervene in society, by maintaining partnerships that have brought great value to the club and the region of Aveiro. This agreement reflects our goal of maintaining a strong bet on training and competing, facilitating access to health services of excellence, as is the case at Hospital da Luz Aveiro . Counting with this partner for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of about 300 athletes, allows us to offer higher safety in the practice of sport”, refers Jorge Naia.
