Hospital da Luz Learning Health and the European Committee on Infection Control (EUCIC) of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), under the coordination of Carlos Palos , fellow of this organization, will promote, next 22 and 23 of June, a training module destined to health professionals on good practice in prevention and infection control, antimicrobial therapeutics, and laboratory diagnosis in the context of emergency services. The course Infection Control, Antimicrobial and Diagnostic Stewardship in the Emergency Room: Simulation to enhance practice is part of the European Competence in Infection Prevention and Control of EUCIC, but can be attended independently of this Competence, being the only one to be held in Portugal, thus offering an excellent opportunity for national participants. On completion of this training, the participants will gain 12 CMEs. This course is destined to health professionals, directly or indirectly involved in the approach of patients in a context of emergency, including physicians (internists or specialists), pharmacists, nurses, as well as teams of infection prevention and control and antimicrobial management of health units, but it could also interest health professionals in general working in this area. It will count with national and international specialists in the concerned areas and elements from Luz Saúde. Besides the theoretical component, the training will include an important simulation component on the second day. ESCMID is one of the major and most renowned international medical societies, with the goal of fighting infection. In that sense, it develops multiple training initiatives and supports research projects viewing to improve the clinical practices of prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
