Six speciality and competency colleges in the National Medical Association will be chaired, in the next triennium, by physicians from Hospital da Luz. The speciality and competency colleges are the advisory organs of the National Medical Association, concerning the exercise of Medicine at national level. The Hospital da Luz professionals were chosen by their peers in elections undertaken early September. They are: Isabel Fragata , Hospital da Luz physician, re-elected president of the College of Neuroradiology. Always dedicated to interventional neuroradiology, she is the youngest ever to be president of this speciality college. Jorge Paulino , director of the General Surgery Service at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, and new president of the General Surgery College. This is the first time that this college is chaired by a surgeon with activity exclusively exercised in the private sector. José Pedro Marques , who will continue to chair the Sports Medicine College. Besides Hospital da Luz Lisboa Sports Medicine Center, this physician also practices in the Unit of Health and Performance of the Portuguese Federation of Football (younger male teams). Miguel Vilares , Hospital da Luz Lisboa physician, and new president of the Maxillofacial Surgery College. In his activity, he is particularly dedicated to the oncological diseases of the head and neck, chairing since January this year the Portuguese Society of Maxillofacial Surgery. Ricardo Veiga who will chair the Pathological Anatomy College. This is the first time that a physician who took his specific internship in a Portuguese private hospital – in the event, Hospital da Luz Lisboa, where he still practices – is elected president of a speciality college. And Daniel Beirão , Hospital da Luz Guimarães clinical director assistant, who will chair the Competency College in Social Security Medical Expertise. The sharing of knowledge and experience is a fundamental value in Medicine. Hospital da Luz congratulates its professionals and wishes them the greatest success in the job.
