The Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim (HLPOV) offered a defibrillator and hospital material to the Lifeguards Association of Póvoa de Varzim-Vila do Conde, to equip the vehicles that provide first aid on the region's beaches, pools, and river beaches, which are essential in supporting and assisting bathers. These vehicles, whose team also includes distinguished nurses, are certified by the competent authorities for the provision of first aid in emergency situations and situations of risk to the health of bathers, now being equipped with a defibrillator and material - ointments, serums , anesthetic and disinfectant sprays, compresses, gases, adhesives, gloves, bandages, masks, blood glucose machines, thermometers, etc. - offered by Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim. The delivery of the defibrillator and hospital consumables was formalized in a ceremony that took place on Friday, the 21st, at Praia do Turismo, Vila do Conde, and was attended by the president of the Association, Carlos Ferreira, and the training director the lifeguards, João Pinheiro, as well as the Hospital's executive director, Sérgio Viana. On the occasion, everyone referred to the importance of this equipment for 'saving lives' on the beach, with Sérgio Viana highlighting Hospital da Luz's desire to support, whenever possible, local institutions that work for the well-being and health of the community. Lu, the Hospital's mascot, also participated in the event, spreading joy and hugs to all the bathers present. During the bathing season, the Póvoa de Varzim-Vila do Conde Lifeguard Association is responsible for ensuring the surveillance of the beaches in the municipalities of Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Arcos de Valdevez, Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos and Porto. Throughout the year, these lifeguards also supervise the pools in the municipalities of Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Melgaço, Arcos de Valdevez, Braga, Trofa, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Felgueiras, Mogadouro, Leça da Palmeira and Penafiel. HLPOV's relationship with this Association began last year, with the signing of a protocol that provides for special conditions for associates in the services provided by the Hospital. As in other cases, the objective of Hospital da Luz with this partnership is to be close to and serve the community in which it operates, promoting the health and well-being of its populations. Members of the Association must find out about the conditions of the protocol from the respective administrative services.
