In the final stretch of this summer season, Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim has just established a protocol with Os Delfins – Association of Lifeguards , providing special conditions of access to health services to all the collaborators of that institution, besides developing joint initiatives near the community. Hospital material was also made available to the association, in order to equip the emergency vehicles they generally use in their activities. Now celebrating 20 years of existence, the lifeguards of Os Delfins: Are essential for the safety of all those who visit the local beaches in the summer, and also the pools throughout the year; Work together with a nursing team with its own emergency vehicles, to provide first aid to bathers in the beaches of the region (Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Matosinhos, Porto, and river beaches; Perform training activities for lifeguards and citizens in general. For Hospital da Luz, this protocol is part of its strategy of intervention near the community and support to the population in healthcare. The agreement with the association was signed by Sérgio Viana and Pedro Linhares (respectively, the administrator and the director general of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim), and Carlos Ferreira and Isaac Braga (respectively, the chairman of the board and the treasurer of Os Delfins). In the ceremony were also present other elements and collaborators of the association, as well as representatives of local entities: Ricardo Silva (the president of the Union of Parishes of Póvoa de Varzim, Beiriz and Argival), Bruno Teles (the Port Captain of Póvoa de Varzim), João Pinheiro (the secretary of Os Delfins and director of the training school), Augusto Sérgio (the president of the Association of Concessionaires of Póvoa de Varzim) and José Manuel Almeida (the administrator of Varzim Lazer). And since both institutions have a common goal – the proximity and service to the community –, it was also agreed the future organization, in partnership, of several initiatives, such as screenings, lectures and campaigns to inform and raise awareness in the context of beach safety, health prevention, first aid and basic life support. The beneficiaries of Os Delfins may consult the conditions previewed in the protocol near the administrative services of the association.
