Tradition was fulfilled in Póvoa de Varzim, last Sunday July 2: about 1,550 athletes and enthusiasts of sports filled the coastal road and surrounding areas, to participate in the 33 th edition of “Corrida de S. Pedro”. The event, already a classical in the “Popular Saints” celebrations in the region – including a 10 km running and a 5 km solidarity walking, in support of the Volunteer Firefighters –, counted once again with the clinical assistance of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim. In the 10 km running, with the participation of 1,300 athletes, the winners were Davide Silva (Sporting Clube de Braga), in the men category, and Mónica Silva (Sport Comércio e Salgueiros) in the women category. The amount of the registration fees paid by the 250 people who participated in the 5 km walking along the coastal road and the main streets of the city, reverted this year to the Volunteer Firefighters of Póvoa de Varzim . The team of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim permanently present throughout the event, with the support of the Volunteer Firefighters, comprised Pedro Coutinho , General and Family Medicine, José Pedro Ferreira, nurse, and Joana Pinto and Vivian Afonso, physiotherapists (all in the photo below). They did not participate in the running, but were always very active, solving the physical ailments that are typically suffered by a few participants. Hospital da Luz expresses its thanks to Póvoa de Varzim city council and the organizing entity – Bikeservice – for the invitation to join this initiative, which was a real success!
