“Running in Time” was the theme of another Hospital da Luz campaign promoting health awareness and social responsibility. Bringing together the Hospital’s long-standing support for the Lisbon Marathons and Pink October , the international breast cancer awareness month, Hospital da Luz challenged dozens of employees and several social media influencers to run for a cause: the fight against breast cancer. Around 50 Hospital da Luz employees took part in the EDP Lisbon Marathon and the Hyundai Lisbon Half Marathon, with every kilometer completed by the Hospital team converted into a donation to the EVITA Association , which supports individuals and families affected by hereditary cancer. The initiative raised more than €700 for the association. The eight influencers who joined the campaign and participated in the races also helped make a difference. Every kilometer they ran was converted into mammograms, offered across the Hospital da Luz network . The “Running in Time” campaign was inspired by an invitation from Hospital da Luz to visual artist Madalena Passeiro to create the initiative’s central image . The result was Maria da Luz, a character featured on the running shirts worn by employees and influencers during the Lisbon Marathon weekend. Maria da Luz also inspired a range of merchandise sold at the Marathon Sport Expo and at the Stylista Market. Proceeds from these sales were donated to the EVITA Association, raising a further €3,000 for the cause. Throughout the races, held in Lisbon on 10 and 11 October, athletes and participants were supported by 185 Hospital da Luz healthcare professionals , including nurses, healthcare technicians, emergency medical staff, physiotherapists and massage therapists, who aided throughout both days of the event. The two flagship races and the 8 km event organized by Maratona Clube de Portugal, once again attracted thousands of runners from around the world, turning the Portuguese capital into a celebration of sport, health and community. Bruno Campos, from Luz Saúde, was the first Hospital da Luz participant wearing the “Running in Time” shirt to cross the finish line of the 21 km half marathon, while Jorge Cerejo, from Hospital da Luz Learning Health, was the first among our team to complete the 42 km marathon. Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who took part and contributed to this important cause. Thank you for helping make a difference.
