Resorting to innocuous ultrasounds, this non-invasive exam allows to obtain three-dimensional images (3D) of the baby inside the mother’s womb. The monitoring of pregnancy includes obstetric ultrasounds (two-dimensional) carried out at different stages and with different goals (in the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd quarters of pregnancy). The technology available made it also possible to get three-dimensional ultrasounds, that although not included in the regular monitoring, are memorable for parents, for the realistic images/photos it enables to obtain and record. The 3D ultrasound does not require previous preparation and can be carried out at any stage of pregnancy. But the most common and advisable is to do it after week 26 of pregnancy , when it is already possible to visualize the face of the foetus.
