Hospital da Luz, the official medical services provider of Galitos Club and Associação Académica de Coimbra (ACC) - Basketball, sponsored the match between the two clubs last January 14, in the 11 th round of the Basketball Proliga North Zone 2022/23, at the Galitos Pavilion, in Aveiro. On the pitch, the students turned out to be stronger, winning by 73-94 – the MVP being Matthew Eldridge (27 points, 15 rebounds and 2 assists). Before the match, fans from both clubs were challenged by Lu, the Hospital da Luz mascot, to take pictures and post them on social media. All those who accepted the challenge, received a scarf of their respective club (Galitos or Académica) and Hospital da Luz, with the line “Saúde de Campeão” (The Health of a Champion), among other gifts. Lu also trained with the players of a Galitos initiate team, causing great enthusiasm among the younger fans. This was the first time the two teams faced each other off, since having Hospital da Luz as official medical service provider (Galitos Club since the beginning of this year, in a partnership with Hospital da Luz Aveiro, and Académica since 2019, in a partnership with Hospital da Luz Coimbra). “These partnerships are part of a global strategy of investment in the promotion of healthy life styles. The support of Hospital da Luz, in the area of Sports Medicine, ranges from the initiate teams to the seniors. This is a way to potentiate the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of athletes, but above all to promote a safe practice of sport” , states Pedro Beja Afonso , the administrator of the Hospital da Luz units in the Centre region.
