The 23 rd International Table Tennis Tournament “Póvoa de Varzim City”, which took place from 18 to 19 March at the Municipal Sports Hall, counted with the clinical assistance provided by teams of professionals from Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim – a partnership that goes back to 2019. The competition is one of the major events in the national and European calendar of this modality , being promoted by Póvoa de Varzim City Hall (Department of Sports) and by Grupo Recreativo Estrela do Bonfim. This edition broke the record in terms of participants: 389 athletes, representing 53 national and international clubs, from countries in all the world continents. Tatiana Garnova from Juncal club won in the senior female category, while Yu Kayama from CTM Mirandela won in the senior male category. “We have here the elite of the national and international table tennis and the partnership with Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim is fundamental and indispensable. It has been a good partner, contributing to the quality of the event”, highlights Castro Lopes, responsible for the city council department of sports. In case of extreme exhaustion or lesion, the athletes “benefit on the spot from immediate assistance, being able to resume their participation”, he explains. The participant athletes “train daily and intensively” and the partnership with Hospital da Luz contributes significantly for this tournament to remain “the best at national level and also one of the best in Europe”, adds on its turn Manuel Rocha, the president of Grupo Recreativo Estrela do Bonfim. The team from Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim following on permanent basis the whole tournament comprised the physiotherapists Ana Simões, Guilherme Fontes, Joana Teixeira and Vivian Afonso, and nurses Diana Brandão, Maria Torre and Rafaela Silva.
