Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim supports the Póvoa de Varzim 2022 World Boccia Cup, that started on July 4 and will run until July 10, in the Municipal Sports Hall, organized by PCAND (Cerebral Palsy – National Sports Association) . At the latter’s request, Hospital da Luz set up a nursing team to apply the COVID-19 tests, mandatory for the over 100 athletes of the championship and respective attendants, in order to comply with all the safety rules. Póvoa de Varzim 2022 World Boccia Cup , with the seal of World Boccia, is one of the major moments in international terms, thus being considered as a kind of “pre-World Cup”, as it scores for the ranking and decides the qualification for the World Championship, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, in December. Póvoa de Varzim was chosen, once again, to be the stage of the competition. In this Póvoa de Varzim 2022 World Boccia Cup, 104 athletes from 24 countries will participate, among them 56 athletes of the world top-12, who will compete for medals in eight individual events (encompassing the four different categories: men, women, and three joint classes). The organization is ensured by PCAND, with the support of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth, the Portuguese Federation for Disability Sports, and the City Council of Póvoa de Varzim.
