Hospital da Luz Lisboa will be the single private hospital to receive resident pharmacists in 2024 for their specific training towards specialization. The selected applicant, Mafalda Barra Cavalheiro, will start her specialization in hospital pharmacy in the beginning of January, under the supervision of the Hospital’s Pharmacy Services. With recognized training competence since 2022, the Pharmacy Services of Hospital da Luz Lisboa were ranked in the top 10 hospital units chosen by the 186 applicants this year, in the three branches of speciality (hospital pharmacy, human genetics, and clinical analyses). Mafalda Barra Cavalheiro will be the second resident pharmacist to be received by Hospital da Luz. The Pharmacy Residency is a program of theoretical and practical training that qualifies pharmacists to the autonomous and technically differentiated professional practice, in the areas of clinical analyses, hospital pharmacy, and human genetics, conferring them the title of specialists, the necessary condition for entry into pharmaceutical careers established by law. Representing for the pharmaceutical profession the equivalent of Medical Internship for the medical profession, the Pharmacy Residency has a four-year duration and is carried out in health establishments and services recognized as competent for that end, being preceded by an admission exam.
