Sleep disorders and their connection with cardiovascular diseases will be in focus in the workshop “Sleep and cardiovascular pathology”, next May 18, organized by the teams of the services of Cardiology and Pulmonology of Hospital da Luz Vila Real, with the support of Vila Real City Hall. The workshop will include a theoretical part, with interventions on the essential aspects of sleep pathologies, followed by a practical component, with the presentation and discussion of clinical cases. Topics such as sleep respiratory disturbances (namely OSA), and cardiovascular diseases (namely arterial hypertension and cardiac rhythm disturbances) will be approached. The main indications of a few cardiology exams (Holter and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring) will be presented, as well as their interpretation/correlation with sleep studies. This workshop is primarily dedicated to physicians, technicians and nurses, but also to all health professionals interested in the subject. As stated by the organizing committee, “these pathologies are quite frequent and prevalent, having today a large impact on survival and the quality of life of the population”.
