Hospital da Luz and the Football Club «Os Belenenses» signed a partnership protocol until June 30, 2024, with Hospital da Luz becoming the Official Medical Services of the Belém club. With this protocol, «Os Belenenses» will become have clinical assistance for the practice of sports in its various modalities and age groups, with a special focus on the senior football A team. Medical check-ups for the beginning of the sporting season for senior football team athletes, as well as medical tests for new hires, are now being carried out at Hospital da Luz Lisboa. The partnership, signed on July 29, also establishes that athletes are referred and, whenever needed, treated in this hospital, both at the outpatient, surgical and inpatient level. Hospital da Luz also provides physiotherapists to support the training and games of the senior football team (team A). All this activity, including the carrying out of clinical analyzes and, in the current context, the carrying out of Covid-19 tests (when requested), will always be carried out in conjunction with the Medical Department of the Football Club «Os Belenenses». During the signing ceremony of the protocol with the Belém club, Tomás Branquinho da Fonseca, from Luz Saúde's Executive Committee, said it was «a pride for Hospital da Luz to be in this partnership» and added: «They are joining the best sports medicine. Our team hopes to contribute to the success of one of the best clubs in Portugal». The partnership with «Os Belenenses» allows us to take another step in the strategy that Hospital da Luz has defined for the area of sports medicine, which includes the creation of a Sports Medicine Center in the new building of Hospital da Luz Lisbon – a center with all the conditions in human resources, equipment and technology to assess, monitor and treat in a multidisciplinary way all types of athletes, from amateurs to professionals, with an integral and comprehensive response, both at the technical and clinical levels. The ceremony, which took place in the auditorium of Hospital da Luz Lisbon, was also attended by the CEO of Luz Saúde, eng. Isabel Vaz, and the executive director of HLL, Pedro Líbano Monteiro, in addition to Paulo Amaral and Mafalda Fernandes, vice-presidents of «Os Belenenses» and player Francisco Sénica, of the A football team in Belém.
