Hospital da Luz Coimbra (HLC) offers now a new area that comes to reinforce the offer in cardiovascular services of the hospital: cardiac surgery . Dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of heart diseases, this area is coordinated by cardiothoracic surgeon Gonçalo Coutinho (on the right, in the photo), also counting with surgeon Pedro Correia (left, in the photo). The start of the activity of cardiac surgery represents “an important step in the cardiovascular area of this hospital unit”, highlights the administrator of Hospital da Luz Coimbra, Pedro Beja Afonso. “In the last year, we were able to go ahead with the Hemodynamics Unit, equipped with the latest technology and representing an important investment. With the implementation of the hospital’s Unit of Intensive / Intermediate Care, we were moreover able to guarantee to patients all clinical safety in the post-surgical procedure period. We continue to work towards the implementation of the ambitious clinical program that we have in the area of cardiology, counting for that purpose with an experienced and excellent team of health professionals”, he adds. Besides procedures in the scope of Cardiac Surgery, Gonçalo Coutinho is also responsible for the Cardiac Surgery consultations.
