Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim will open to the public, from the 27 February to the 31 March, a photographic exhibition by one of its collaborators, Joaquim Garrido. “In hospital, during the pandemic”, gathers a series of 60 images captured in 2020 and 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, about the daily activity of professionals and clients, then subject to deep changes. Born in Vila do Conde, graduated in Information Technology, Joaquim Garrido works in the Direction of Information Systems and Technologies, at Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim. Photography has always been a “passion”. “It is something that inspires me and arouses my curiosity; it is a way to eternalize moments and places”, he says. Presently taking a degree in Photography at the College of Media, Arts and Design (ESMAD), it was in connection with an academic project that he started taking the pictures that originated this exhibition. “Working in the area of health, from the very outset I took an interest in capturing the changes and modifications experienced in the working environment, during the pandemic – namely, conducts taken, codes, measures of protection and, being an absolutely essential sphere of human life, never having closed its services, in what way it went out into the field, protecting both patients and professional teams”, he explains. With the permission of the board and clinical direction of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim, this “was a unique opportunity to capture in images such scenarios, human expressions and all the associated ambiance”. Some of the photos received distinctions in renowned international contests (like the one that illustrates this piece of news): International Photography Awards, MIFA (Moscow International Foto Awards) and International Photo Awards (Vienna and Sienna). The curator of the exhibition is Pedro Martins. Date: 27 February (inauguration at 10 a.m.) until 31 March 2023 Place: Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim (floor 2 and 6)
