Hospital da Luz Coimbra established an agreement with the National Health Service (SNS) for exams and treatments in the specialty of Nuclear Medicine, so that all patients may benefit from this service. The Nuclear Medicine team of this hospital, directed by physicians Paula Lapa and Maria João Cunha, is highly specialized, making it possible to apply protocols of evaluation in a variety of pathologies. Nuclear Medicine is a medical specialty with an imaging component – based on the administration of radiopharmaceuticals directed to the organ or system targeted – being essential for the diagnosis and follow-up of multiple diseases, in areas such as oncology, cardiology, nephrology and endocrinology, among others. The most common exams are bone scintigraphy and myocardial scintigraphy. Nuclear Medicine has also a therapeutic component, resorting to the administration of radiopharmaceuticals for the application of systemic radiotherapy.
