The term “hyperactivity” is generally used to refer one the most frequent neurodevelopmental disorders in children and youths: the attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. This is the topic of the conference to be organized by Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim next January 31, especially destined to parents and teachers, who play a fundamental role in the life of children and youths with ADHD. The session will have as speakers Ana Castro (developmental paediatrician), Pedro Vaz (clinical psychologist), and the writer Pedro Chagas Freitas, which will approach: In what consists ADHD: symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and intervention. At home and in school, how to deal with it and how to communicate? Strategies of planning, organization and communication. The decree-law 54/2018 of July 6 (Legal framework of inclusive education): what it establishes, how and when it applies? It is quite common to say that a child is “hyperactive”, when he is more restless than the others. In fact, ADHD: Is not “a disease”, contrary to what it is often said, but a neurobiological condition; Is a disorder of the child neurodevelopment with specific characteristics and harder to diagnose than people think; Is estimated to affect between 10 to 15% of the school-aged population; Is very hard to diagnose formally, implying a multidisciplinary approach (with professionals from different areas). This conference will have free admission, being limited to the available places in the auditorium.
