It is with deep sorrow that Luz Saúde marks the passing of Professor Filipe Caseiro Alves, Clinical Director of Hospital da Luz Coimbra since 2018, a physician of reference, illustrious university professor and nationally and internationally recognized researcher. Throughout an unparalleled career, he has distinguished himself by his scientific expertise, clinical rigor and constant search for innovation. Exceptional radiologist, full professor at Coimbra University’s Medical School, and widely recognized figure in the international scientific community, he has decisively contributed to the development of radiology in Portugal and the education of many generations of doctors. He was distinguished with important international acknowledgements, among them Gold Medals by ESGAR and the European Society of Radiology. But the greatness of Professor Filipe Caseiro Alves clearly exceeded his extraordinary academic and professional path. Those who have worked with him will always recall his constant willingness, the respectful way he related with everyone, the ability to listen to and value different opinions, plus the cordiality and elegance of his interactions. He showed a genuine interest in people, was ready to acknowledge the merit of others, and believed in the value of teamwork. His presence inspired confidence, serenity, and sense of purpose. As Clinical Director, he has decisively contributed to the growth, differentiation, and assertion of Hospital da Luz Coimbra. He performed the duty always with a focus on the quality of service provided, founded on ethics and respect for people. Today we say goodbye to a remarkable physician, a deeply human individual, and an inspiring professor. But also, a friend whose memory will remain alive among all those who have had the privilege of working, learning and being around him. In the name of the whole Luz Saúde community, we hereby pay the most heartfelt tribute to Professor Filipe Caseiro Alves and offer his family, friends and colleagues our sincerest condolences.
