For the third time since its opening, Hospital Beatriz Ângelo (HBA) received accreditation in quality and safety from the Joint Commission International (JCI) , the North American multinational of hospital auditing. The seal now granted by JCI means that the services, the adopted procedures and the professionals from HBA, on the whole, respect and comply with the most demanding international requirements of safety and quality in healthcare providing, placing HBA among the best hospitals audited by this entity. After a week of evaluation in loco, performed between 7 and 11 October by JCI auditors – who went through all services without prior notice, verifying the procedures along a normal day of work –, the auditing final result was the best ever for HBA. In a total of 1.244 parameters of quality and safety evaluated , HBA obtained 98,9% of full approval , proofing the conformity of the healthcare provided in this hospital with the international standards defined by that organization. The JCI auditing checked areas and procedures as diverse as hospital infection control, medication safety, medical and surgical healthcare providing in inpatient regimen and in the operating theatre, and even management of the institution in terms of organization and planning of resources and procedures concerning human resources, among others. This is the third time that HBA is accredited by JCI, in the context of global hospital auditing, always having obtained the seal of quality and safety from this international organization. In the next year and in 2021, JCI auditors are expected to return to HBA, but merely for specific follow-up evaluations. In the closing session of the auditing, and in the presence of over a hundred HBA professionals, JCI auditors congratulated everyone for the quality of the healthcare provided , highlighting the improvement in results since the first auditing. “Words convince, attitudes imply”, was one of the expressions most heard in this session, which resumed for everyone this new success for HBA.
