Jesus Luque, pharmacist at Hospital da Luz Lisboa, has just been appointed by the Government as a member of the Ethics Committee for Clinical Research (CEIC). The official order, already published in the Official Gazette of the Union and signed by the Secretary of State for Health, Ana Povo, also determines that the pharmacist will also join the CEIC Executive Committee. Jesus Luque has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and a specialist in Hospital Pharmacy from the Spanish Order of Pharmacists. He is a member of the research committee and pharmacist responsible for the Central Coordinating Group of the Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Resistance Program (GCCPPCIRA) of Grupo Luz Health; member of the Scientific Committee at the Portuguese Society of Health Care Pharmacists and coordinator of the Clinical Trials Interest Group of the Order of Pharmacists. The CEIC (Clinical Research Ethics Committee) is an independent body formed by health professionals and others, responsible for ensuring the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of participants in clinical studies and guaranteeing them within society, by issuing an ethical opinion on the research protocols submitted to it. CEIC was created in 2005 and operates under the responsibility of the Minister of Health, with its members appointed by order of the Minister of Health, among personalities with recognized professional experience in the areas of bioethics, genetics, medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology, nursing, biostatistics, legal and theological and others.
