Manuel Domingues , Ophthalmology coordinator of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim, Amarante, Cerveira and Porto, was one of the guest speakers intervening in the annual congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery – ESCRS), which took place in Copenhagen, between the 12 and 16 September. The ESCRS is the largest ophthalmology society in the world and this was its 43 rd congress, gathering thousands of specialists to discuss the latest clinical and technological advances in the area of ophthalmology, in particular in the refractive surgery area, which is fundamental in the treatment of ophthalmologic diseases such as hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. A pioneer in Portugal in the area of presbyopia surgery with intraocular lenses, Manuel Domingues intervened in the two main scientific sessions of the congress: a video-symposium on cataract surgery, moderated by Robert Osher, director emeritus of the Cincinnati Eye Institute, before an audience of around five thousand ophthalmologists, and a lecture on pupil surgical repair, with Boris Malyugin, a world reference for his pioneer techniques developed in in anterior segment eye surgery. The presence of Manuel Domingues in this international congress represents not only the recognition of his clinical and scientifical career, but also the affirmation of the clinical excellence of those units of Hospital da Luz, positioning itself in the forefront of ophthalmology in Portugal, and offering its clients medical practices aligned with the highest international standards.
