May 1st, 2023. The first day of the month of the heart and the starting date of the #sigaoseucoracaonaluz campaign across the entire Hospital da Luz network. Our cardiologists, more than 170 specialists in the entire Network, came forward to confirm that, at Hospital da Luz, there are highly differentiated clinical teams in Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiology, equipped with the most modern technological resources, who work daily to identify cardiovascular risk factors and diagnose, treat, and manage heart disease. Specialists in cardiovascular risk, arrhythmology, pediatric cardiology, sports cardiology, cardio-oncology, and cardiac imaging thus helped convey the key idea of this campaign: “cardiovascular diseases need to be prevented and controlled more. Count on Hospital da Luz to follow your heart”. And each one with a special message aimed at the most prevalent heart conditions and the risks to the heart associated with being overweight, stress or family history, among others: At Hospital da Luz, specialists in cardiovascular risk provide support in every way. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in cardiac imaging see further. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in pediatric cardiology do not play around. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in cardiovascular risk are part of the family. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in arrhythmology are at the right pace. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in sports cardiology are rooting for you. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in cardiovascular risk help you to live life with peace of mind. At Hospital da Luz, specialists in cardio-oncology fight with you. Nationwide screenings and walks through the heart The Hospital da Luz Network also mobilized within the scope of the #sigaoseucoracaonaluz campaign, to carry out free cardiovascular risk screenings for the population throughout the country, to which many hundreds of people joined. Our nursing teams and cardiopulmonology technicians carried out more than 60,000 tests to assess health indicators, such as blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and body mass index, in screenings carried out within the facilities of each of the Hospitals da Luz and also in public places of reference for local communities – a way of getting closer to people and sharing information about cardiovascular diseases, which are the leading cause of death in Portugal. Our employees were not left out and made a point of marking the month of the heart, participating in another of the #sigaoseucoraçaonaluz campaign initiatives: the Walk for the Heart. More than 500 employees and family members from 16 hospitals and clinics in the Hospital da Luz network, as well as from some of Luz Saúde's central services, took part in the healthy walks of several kilometres, through the countryside or by the sea. They thus spent a few hours in excellent conviviality and always in contact with nature, enjoying unique landscapes such as Parque da Arrábida (Setúbal), Ponta de S. Lourenço (Madeira), Parque da Cidade (Porto), Rota da Citânia (Guimarães), Parque Corgo (Vila Real), the riverside (Amarante and Vila Nova de Cerveira), Póvoa de Varzim Passadiços, Parque Verde (Coimbra) and Parque de Monsanto (Lisbon). The initiative was a success, with many of the participants promising to walk through their hearts with Hospital da Luz again. The #sigaoseucoracaonaluz campaign also occupied part of the attention of followers of Hospital da Luz channels and social networks, with numerous publications with alerts from our specialists, news of screenings for our patients and images of walks with our employees. All of this with the same objective: to focus everyone's attention on the fact that cardiovascular diseases have a high prevalence – one in three Portuguese people die from cardiovascular diseases –, the main ones being acute myocardial infarction and stroke. Therefore, it is urgent to reinforce prevention and maintain cardiac surveillance adapted to the risk of each person. Follow your heart at Hospital da Luz. Count on our experts.
