Hélder Dores , cardiologist in Hospital da Luz Network, has just launched another book, this time dedicated to the effects of physical exercise on the heart, with explanations and practical advice. “ Exercício físico e coração – Saiba como e até onde pode ir ” (“Physical exercise and the heart – How and to what extent”) was published by Lidel and publicly presented last June 27. “The purpose of this book is helping athletes and people in general, inclusive those with cardiovascular disease, to start or maintain a regular practise of physical exercise. Alongside that, it explains the importance of physical exercise and its impact on the heart”, clarifies Hélder Dores. The Hospital da Luz cardiologist approaches a wide array of topics , such as for instance: The effects of physical exercise on health; The problem of a sedentary lifestyle; The role of diet; How to find the right sport; Precautions with extreme exercise; Exercise /sport that can be practised by those with cardiovascular disease, risk factors and warning signs. Hélder Dores is the coordinator of clinical cardiology in the Cardiology Service of Hospital da Luz Lisboa and physician of the Health & Performance Department of Sport Lisboa e Benfica.
