On March 20, the World Oral Health Day, the Dental Medicine Service of Hospital da Luz Setúbal will offer oral health screenings to adults and children (from 6 years). Access is free, but previous registration is mandatory. The screening includes an assessment by a dentist and an orthopantomography (panoramic X-ray). Cavities and periodontal diseases are the main problems associated to a deficient oral hygiene: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost 100% adults and over 60% children of school age have cavities. Severe periodontal disease, that may result in the loss of teeth, affects between 15% to 20% adults, from 35 to 45 years of age. The World Oral Health Day, on March 20, was established on the initiative of the World Dental Federation and has for goal to sensitize the population to the need of maintaining a good oral hygiene, through good habits, a healthy diet and regular monitoring.
