Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa has reinforced the investment on Orthopedics, now offering a clinical team organized by anatomical and functional areas. In person or as video consultation, there are now available spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee, foot, and ankle consultations, and also sports traumatology and paediatric Orthopedics. The new organization of the Orthopedics team, coordinated by Carlos Maia Dias , allows a multidisciplinary operation integrating elements from other specialities, namely Neurology, Anaesthesiology (pain), Musculoskeletal Imaging, Podiatry, and Physiatry. “This project views to offer a highly specialized multidisciplinary service focused on the patient, ensuring clinical excellence and expediency in muscle, articular and skeletal pathology treatments. All this building on the considerable experience and tradition of this hospital unit in the treatment of complex traumatic lesions, which has enabled the services of Anaesthesiology, Operating Theatre, Imaging, and Physiatry to develop a unique knowledge in this context over the last years”, explains Carlos Maia Dias. Orthopedics is dedicated to the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of locomotor system diseases. The most frequent lesions in Orthopedics are bone fractures and luxations, torn ligaments, muscle tears, articular pain, tendinopathies, and sports injuries. This medical specialty is also dedicated to the assessment and treatment of degenerative lesions and peripheral neurological lesions, frequent causes of pain without any traumatic origin.
