Clipóvoa Hospital Privado, the private unit of Luz Saúde group in Póvoa do Varzim, obtained the maximum rating of three stars for clinical excellence in orthopedics and gynecology, in the SINAS evaluation performed by ERS – Health Regulation Authority. The same evaluation process distinguished with two stars the prenatal care and delivery in this unit’s obstetric area, thus maintaining excellence levels above average. The ERS also audited the behavior of health institutions in areas related with patient safety, facilities, comfort and equipment quality, as well as the adequacy level of services to patient needs and expectations. In all these areas, Clipóvoa Hospital Privado obtained the maximum rating of three stars. The results of this evaluation, concerning 2014, were known this week, but do not determine hospital ranking, as the health units decided which areas to submit to SINAS evaluation. SINAS is a system of evaluation of healthcare establishments’ global quality, developed by ERS – Health Regulation Authority, based on three fundamental criteria: accuracy, transparence and objectivity. The Health Regulation Authority argues that this evaluation system «strives for scientific and technical accuracy, objectivity and fairness, motivation and involvement of caregivers, transparence and intelligibility, concerning the establishments evaluated and the public in general, particularly patients».
