Any child could be a victim of cardiorespiratory arrest, as a result of disease, trauma, drowning, choking or other cause requiring immediate resuscitation. The Paediatric Service at Hospital da Luz Lisboa intends to contribute to the improvement of parents and caretakers’ abilities in this area, and will be organizing in September the first Paediatric Basic Life Support Course . Family and caretakers are usually the first to be faced with situations of cardiorespiratory arrest in children. Therefore, they have the possibility to initiate quite early Basic Life Support manoeuvres (BLS) and call the national emergency service (112). However, a major part of them do not have the notions of paediatric BLS that are decisive for the prospect of recovery of the child. Along the three-hour course, the participants will have the opportunity to learn with Hospital da Luz physicians, how to: Recognize the signs of cardiorespiratory arrest in children and youths; Train BLS manoeuvres in simulators; Perform clearance manoeuvres of the airways, when obstructed by a foreign object. The course will be given by Hospital da Luz Lisboa paediatricians specialized in child emergency care: Rita Calado , Raquel Ferreira , João Crispim and Filipa Marques . In case of cardiorespiratory arrest, every second counts. Learn how to save lives. Register now!
