Hospital da Luz Guimarães offers now a surprise to children that are undertaking surgeries: electrical minicars to transport them down the hallways to the room where the intervention will take place . This way, the journey to the operating room happens in a more relaxed and fun manner. The moments preceding a surgery and all that it involves – taking off their own clothes and putting on the hospital gown, going into the operating room on a gurney, and receiving the anaesthetic medication – are always moments of anxiety. The purpose is that the children themselves drive these minicars, always accompanied by the hospital’s medical and nursing teams, and under the supervision of one of the parents. Driving the minicar, when the condition of the child so permits , offers a distraction, adds fun and reduces anxiety . The benefits are also important at clinical level, since the distraction and relaxation of the children act as a “non-therapeutic premedication”, allowing to reduce the need of medication at this stage and favour an easier awakening after surgery. The two minicars were offered by JAP Group , in the context of a protocol celebrated with Hospital da Luz (in the photo above, the delivery of the minicars: Ana Abreu, the director-general of Hospital da Luz Guimarães, João Ricardo Vieira and Fábio Cruz Oliveira, respectively the director and commercial director of JAP Group, and Teresa Moura, the nursing director of this hospital). The referred protocol establishes special conditions for the collaborators of this car dealer in the access to healthcare, namely discounts* on the list prices for all services provided at Hospital da Luz Guimarães, such as: 24 hour-emergency consultations; Planned consultations in medical and surgical specialties; Dental medicine treatments; Complementary diagnostic exams; Surgeries; Inpatient care. The beneficiaries may inform themselves on these special conditions near the administrative services of JAP Group or through Hospital da Luz Guimarães. This agreement was signed on October 14, by Ana Abreu (on the right, in the photo bellow) and João Ricardo Vieira (on the left, in the photo). *The discounts agreed are not cumulative with other discounts the beneficiaries might already have through health insurances or other agreements, conventions and protocols.
