The Unit of Palliative and Continuing Care (UCCP) from Hospital da Luz Lisboa will provide, next 13 to 16 October , the 3 rd Advanced International Course on Palliative Care – a multidisciplinary event with the scientific coordination of Isabel Galriça Neto , preferentially destined to health professionals working in this area. This time, the biannual course will take place entirely on webinar platform, the works being followed online, distributed by four mornings in consecutive days. The webinar format allows the enrolled participants to pose questions to speakers via chat, thus ensuring interactivity, which has been a distinct trait of this course. Moreover, the sessions will be recorded and made subsequently available in e-learning format for enrolled participants, that will be able to view (or review) those interventions and debates. “We aim to disseminate high standards of knowledge, through lecturers of renowned clinical and pedagogical practice. And in a time where we are challenged to explore new pedagogical methodologies and innovating methods, we wish to continue to count with those who have a real interest for the area of Palliative Care and caregiving of excellence”, highlights Isabel Galriça Neto, the director of Hospital da Luz Lisboa UCCP and president of the College of Palliative Medicine of the National Association of Doctors. To reflect on daily practice in Palliative Care , reinforce the network of peer contacts, stimulate the comparative analysis of assistential practices, and update knowledge based on evidence and on good practice recommendations, are the main goals of this course. Therefore, the program integrates a large diversity of the latest topics in Palliative Care, such as: new drugs; the recourse to palliative sedation; the eventual use of cannabinoids; the questions of sexuality at the end of life; and the issues concerning the expression of the wish to die. The organization of the 3 rd Advanced International Course on Palliative Care maintains a close collaboration with the Clinic of Navarra University , namely through Carlos Centeno , the director of the respective Service of Palliative Medicine and researcher in the area. The panel of international speakers also includes Alberto Alonso (Unit of Palliative Care from Hospital Universitário La Paz, Madrid) and Tony O’Brien (University College Cork, Dublin). “We hope that this program, as well as the quality of the themes and lecturers, will increase the interest and value of this course for palliative care professionals, guaranteeing the success of this edition, like the previous ones”, concludes Isabel Galriça Neto .
