Hospital da Luz Lisboa will hold, on November 14, another edition of the Palliative Care Training for Volunteers , a free course destined to prospective volunteers in the field, and all those interested in learning more about this healthcare and acquiring competence to help patients in need. This fifth edition of the course will be once more organized by the Palliative and Continuing Care Unit (PCCU) of this hospital, directed by Isabel Galriça Neto . Along approximately five hours, participants will listen to, exchange ideas and reflect together with these professionals on the following topics: The philosophy and principles of palliative care; The role of volunteers in a palliative care unit; Relational and communicational competences to help end-of-life patients and respective families and enable team working; The ethical principles underlying end-of-life issues and its observance; The importance of spirituality in the quality of life of patients and families. Palliative care is designed for patients with loss of autonomy and need of rehabilitation, or in complex situations of suffering associated with uncurable and progressive diseases. Hospital da Luz Lisboa was the first hospital in the private sector in Portugal to establish a continuing and palliative care unit with inpatient capacity, a pioneering project of 18 years entailing the accrued responsibility of experience transmission and intervention in this field in the community involved. This training is destined to the public in general, in particular to prospective volunteers in palliative care teams – a healthcare increasingly required by the population presently. Date and time: 14 November 2025, 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Place: Hospital da Luz Lisboa (auditorium) Registrations
