Over a thousand athletes have participated in this year’s edition of Poço Negro Trail, a solidarity event with running and walking tracks along the Rio Mau valley, in Penafiel , near the Douro River, this time held on July 19. The event has counted with the clinical and logistic support of Hospital da Luz Arrábida, besides the participation of a few of its collaborators that were involved in the organization. The Poço Negro Trail: Is destined to running and walking in natural environment enthusiasts, presently in its 9 th edition, with tracks along Serra da Boneca, Estivada and the Rio Mau valley. Is an event viewing to promote the region, valuing its natural characteristics and at the same time contributing for a social cause. The revenues from registrations revert to Association for the Development of Mau River Borough, a local IPSS that provides domiciliary support to elderly and people in vulnerable situations, besides running a day care centre and a leisure time atelier. Hospital da Luz Arrábida has offered materials for space organization and reusable cups for athletes, so as to avoid plastic consumption and reduce waste. Beyond the solidarity nature of the event, this is an initiative that has proven throughout the years to represent a significant moment for the promotion of physical activity near the population, which is fundamental for healthier lifestyles and disease preventing. Whenever the community so requires, Hospital da Luz will be present!
