Hospital da Luz Clínica de Odivelas has in full operation an operating room ready to perform ambulatory surgeries in several specialties. The team coordinated by orthopedist Raul Alonso performed, on February 26, the first shoulder surgery at Hospital da Luz Clínica de Odivelas , that was also the first ambulatory surgery in the specialty of Orthopedics performed in our operating room. The surgery was performed by arthroscopy , a minimally invasive technique where the joint is accessed through small incisions in the skin. Through these incisions, an optical system is then inserted, allowing to view the whole shoulder joint, and the necessary tools to cleanse the inflamed tissues and repair the lesions are also inserted. Compared to traditional open surgery, arthroscopic surgery has substantial benefits for patients, namely a faster recovery and less pain in the post-operative period. Raul Alonso integrates the Group of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery from Hospital da Luz Lisboa, practising in the units of Hospital da Luz network in Odivelas and Torres de Lisboa.
