Almost 500 people participated in the Sleep Apnea Screening, which Hospital da Luz promoted on March 15th, World Sleep Day, in 16 hospitals and clinics of the Luz Saúde Network. Through a survey aimed at identifying warning signs and symptoms of apnea, the Hospital da Luz teams ended up referring for consultation around a third of the participants in these screenings, more than 50% of whom were men, among whom sleep apnea is more prevalent. Alerting to the symptoms and risks of this disease, reinforcing the need for prevention, and raising awareness of the importance of multidisciplinary work in the treatment of sleep apnea was also the objective of this Hospital da Luz initiative. On World Sleep Day, which was celebrated on March 15th, the pulmonology teams at the hospitals and clinics of the Luz Saúde group released, to the general population and the medical community, information on the prevalence of sleep apnea in certain risk groups, also indicating the symptoms and need early intervention in some of them.
