Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim ensured clinical assistance in the 26 th edition of the International Table Tennis Tournament “Póvoa de Varzim City”, which took place on the 21 st and 22 nd March at the Municipal Sports Hall. The competition – classified as Super Class A, the highest level, and one of the major events in the national and European calendar of the modality – is annually promoted by the City Hall, in partnership with Grupo Recreativo Estrela do Bonfim. In the two days of the competition, Hospital da Póvoa de Varzim has set up on site a totally equipped clinical support centre prepared to meet the demands of an event such as this. In there, several athletes were assisted for small injuries, muscle contractures, and other clinical situations. The Hospital da Luz team at the event comprised nurses Ana Beatriz Magalhães and Inês Norte, and physiotherapists Joana Teixeira (coordinator), João Maciel, Maria Trigo and Sofia Costa, ensuring a prompt, efficient and differentiated response. Overall, the event gathered 444 athletes from 15 nationalities, representing 56 teams, thus reinforcing the status of Póvoa de Varzim as stage of excellence for the practice of table tennis. In the senior category, Énio Mendes, from CD São Roques, and Olga Chramko, from ADC Ponta Pargo, conquered the highest places on the podium, after a fierce competition. Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim thanks the tournament organization for the trust and the opportunity to participate once more in this great sports initiative, thus contributing for the safety and welfare of all participants.
