Hospital da Luz Aveiro has now a team englobing the several medical and surgical specialities necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of the sports problems and lesions of all athletes, be it in professional or amateur sport. The goal is to answer the actual needs and demands of sports medicine and traumatology, “both from the point of view of the increasingly higher complexity of surgical procedures and from that of the need of patients to count with competent professionals differentiated by areas, in order to treat the problems and lesions associated with the practice of sport”, as it was explained by Alexandre Brandão, orthopaedist and the coordinator of this Hospital da Luz Aveiro team, in a story published by “Diário de Aveiro”. Besides Alexandre Brandão , orthopaedist and specialist in knee problems, the multidisciplinary team includes physicians António Cruz Ferreira (sports medicine), Nuno Gomes (orthopaedist and specialist in pathologies of the upper limbs, namely elbow and shoulder), André Couto (orthopaedist differentiated in ankle and foot), António Amaro (physical medicine and rehabilitation), Paulo Dinis (sports cardiology) and Jorge Cabral (anesthesiologist).
