Start-ups with projects of technological solution for social and environmental problems can submit, starting today 26 October, their applications for the 3 rd edition of Maze X – a program of the European accelerator Maze, based in Lisbon and created by Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian and Fundação Edmond de Rothschild, having among others Hospital da Luz Learning Health for partner. The goal is to attract the most promising entrepreneurs from all over Europe and position Portugal as impacting investment centre and high-growth entrepreneurism. Maze X consists in a nine-month acceleration program, where access to funds, competences and network is made available to entrepreneurs that are solving social and environmental challenges through their businesses. The program focuses on the development of pilot projects with companies that act as testing platforms for products and services of the start-ups, that on the other hand receive an important feedback from clients and the market. In the previous editions, Maze X worked, for instance, with impacting start-ups, including solutions in the scope of: electrical mobility (ElectricFeel); reuse of food packaging (Vytal); clean energy (such as Eco Wave Power); sustainable fishing (such as Safety Net); digital inclusion of people with dyslexia (Omoguru); innovative medical equipment (NU RISE, project of precision radiation of cancerous tissues and adjacent organs, that is presently implementing pilot projects with Hospital da Luz Learning Health). The program has been much praised by the responsible of the over 90 start-ups already involved in Maze programs. “It is special, not only for the focus on impact, but mostly for its solid and intelligent team, always ready to challenge us, besides the impressive extension of its network of contacts”, comments for instance Tim Breker, cofounder of Vytal. “The covid-19 pandemic forced us to move to an online program in a very short time. We knew that we had to design a new program almost from scratch and we were surprised with our capacity to offer much more value to our entrepreneurs, from the point of view of network and growth”, explains, on the other hand, Rita Casimiro, Head of Acceleration at Maze.
