Susana Ourô , a General Surgery specialist at Hospital da Luz, with a subspecialty in colorectal surgery from the European Society of Coloproctology (European Board of Surgery) since 2014 and extensive experience, both clinically and in research, in rectal pathology and inflammatory bowel disease, was the first Portuguese surgeon to receive the European Robotic Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery. Susana Ourô was chosen to join Marcos Gómez's team at Marqués de Valdecilla Hospital in Santander, Spain , for six months. He is one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the world. Gomez is responsible for the Colorectal Surgery Unit at that hospital and for teaching robotic colorectal surgery to the European Society of Coloproctology (Colorobotica@) and is a distinguished researcher in this field. This European robotic colorectal surgery fellowship is open exclusively to surgeons experienced in laparoscopic surgery. Only those with demonstrated expertise in colorectal pathology and experience, both in number and complexity, in minimally invasive differentiated surgery are selected. Susana Ourô is the coordinator of the Rectal Cancer Group at Hospital da Luz Lisboa and, in addition to her regular and complex clinical surgical practice, conducts scientific research in this area. She holds a PhD in rectal cancer and is the principal investigator of the Robotic Colorectal Surgery Study, currently underway.
