Oral hygiene is a basic health care that should be taken from an early age – that was the message brought by Hospital da Luz Arrábida to about a hundred children from two schools in the region, in sessions held in the context of the hospital’s initiatives near the community. The sessions were dynamized by dentists Joana Silva and Susana Ferreira . The first session took place at Candal Marco Social Centre, in Vila Nova de Gaia, englobing about 80 children aged between 3 and 6. The second session, on May 7, held at EB1 Campolindo 2 school, in Valadares, was provided to about 30 children aged between 6 and 7. In a fun and pedagogical manner, the Hospital da Luz dentists have explained the importance of taking care of the mouth and teeth from early on. How to brush the teeth correctly, the influence of diet on oral health, the prevention of dental caries, and the importance of regular consultations were topics approached. Resorting to interactive material, the sessions were educational but also fun for everyone. And of course, the presence of Lu was a highlight: the Hospital da Luz mascot has helped capture the children’s attention making learning easier and engaging. For Hospital da Luz Arrábida, this was yet another initiative reinforcing its commitment of health promotion. Whenever the community so requires, we are there.
