In a ceremony attended by the region's most important figures, Hospital da Luz Setúbal officially presented, on the 15th, the new Intensive and Intermediate Therapy Unit (UCII), renovated and equipped with the most modern equipment, and prepared for receive and monitor, with complete safety, the most complex and critical patients. The investment made by the Hospital in this new UCII is an important step in improving the conditions provided to health professionals, patients and their families, when clinical situations are more complex and require high safety and differentiated monitoring. The coordination of this new Unit is in the hands of Patrícia Patrício, a specialist in Clinical Medicine and Intensive Medicine, who has a team of around ten health professionals, including doctors, nurses and others. On the occasion, the executive director of Hospital da Luz Setúbal, Cristina Fezas Vital, made a point of highlighting the increasingly relevant role that this unit of Grupo Luz Saúde has in the region. “In 2024, we had around 122 thousand clients, 90% of whom were from the Setúbal district” , he said, also stating that the investment in this UCII “reinforces our commitment to professionals, enabling the Hospital to perform increasingly complex surgeries and to care for critically ill patients.” Luz Saúde CEO, Isabel Vaz, said, in turn, that “what we are inaugurating, in fact, is a complexification of the health care that we provide here at Hospital da Luz Setúbal. Safety for patients and professionals.” And he added: “But we are also laying the foundation stone for the major investment we are going to make here in the city and for its population” , in reference to the Hospital expansion project, which is awaiting approval from the city hall. Cardinal Dom Américo Aguiar, bishop of the diocese of Setúbal, and the president of the Setúbal City Council, André Valente Martins, were guests of honor at this ceremony, which was also attended by the Health Councilor, Pedro Pina. The mayor expressed his gratitude for the investment made in the health of the population, that aimed at improving access to health care. “We are living through difficult times in healthcare in Portugal, particularly in the Setúbal Peninsula. Our population feels these difficulties every day” , began by saying André Martins, adding: “If there was no Hospital da Luz in Setúbal, we would have gone much further in the initiatives we took with the Government, to demand better health conditions for the people. our citizens,” he said. He also said: “I have been monitoring the demand for this Hospital, which has grown substantially, which shows that it provides extraordinary service to our population. And we are monitoring the new investments that will be made, waiting with anticipation for the works to begin” – also in reference to the project to expand the Hospital da Luz Setúbal. Dom Américo Aguiar defended the importance of complementarity between private and public services in Health. And he thanked the mayor “for his sensitivity in managing to combine this complementarity between the obligations of the municipality, the obligations of the central government and the possibilities and desires of each one.
