Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim ensured the official medical services to the 8 th Corrida dos Reis (The Three Kings Race), which took place last Saturday, January 10, in Póvoa de Varzim. Around 2,500 athletes covered the 8 kilometres of the emblematic running event. Organized by Bikeservice, with the support of Póvoa de Varzim Municipality, the Corrida dos Reis has filled the city streets once again, establishing itself as one of the most remarkable sport events in the start of the year. The event counted with the presence of Póvoa de Varzim city council president, Andrea Silva, who welcomed the participants and presided the awards ceremony. To ensure the safety of everyone involved, Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim has set up an advanced medical post with a team specialized in advanced life support, providing prompt and efficient response to any emergency situation throughout the event. The operation included a local assistance system specifically develop for the event, in close articulation with the Póvoa de Varzim Volunteer Fire Brigade, responsible for the emergency vehicles. The Hospital da Luz team included one physician, two nurses and eight emergency medical technicians, supported by three bikes distributed along the track, equipped with medical material, and automated external defibrillators (AED), allowing a swift and coordinated intervention. The advanced medical post was equipped with complete means of advanced life support, including monitors-defibrillators, ventilators, oxygenotherapy, emergency pharmacotherapy, small surgery equipment, and recovery and transportation material, ensuring the necessary conditions for screening, medical assistance, nursing, and recovery. In athletic terms, Carlos Costa (Vizela Corre) was the big winner of this 8 th edition of Corrida dos Reis, completing the run in 24m 32s. In the women’s, the victory went to Maria Vinagre (AF Salesianos), crossing the finish line in 27m 32s. The participation of Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim in this event reinforces its commitment towards the promotion of health, safety, and sport, along with an active support to initiatives developed by the local community.
