Hospital da Luz Setúbal teams were at Escola Básica e Secundária Lima de Freitas, on March 14 and 18, where they organized several activities with groups of 12 th and 9 th grades, within the project Health at School. This is the second year of this special project launched by Hospital da Luz, viewing to develop the health competencies of children and youths in the district. “Affections and sexuality” was the topic approached with 12 th grade classes. Students listened attentively to our psychologists Cláudia Martins and Beatriz Rodrigues (intern) and nurses Marina Leal, Patrícia Mendes, and Vanda Sousa, clarifying some doubts. The session was organized and followed by Celeste Aldeias, teacher in the school and coordinator of Health Education Promotion. Caring for affections in school is of particular importance, since affectional bonds (positive and negative) impact on learning (for better or for worse) and interpersonal relationships (more or less satisfactory) – consequently impacting on attitudes and behaviours (more or less positive). Therefore, developing affections at school will be an important lever of school success for students. Through games and roleplay strategies, the Hospital da Luz Setúbal team presented and discussed in this session topics such as love and attraction, proximity and commitment, healthy relationships and sexual violence, pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted infections prevention. As for 9 th grade students, they were challenged to talk about “Addictive behaviours – with and without substances”. The Hospital da Luz Setúbal team included psychologists Francisco Almeida and Beatriz Rodrigues (intern), General and Family Medicine practitioner Joana Gonçalves and nurses Marina Leal, Milene Diogo, and Ana Ferreira. The purpose of this session was to provide knowledge and give students the necessary skills to face the risk associated with psychoactive substances consumption and other addictive behaviours and dependencies. Through theoretical presentation strategies, brainstorming and dynamic games, our team presented and discussed with students topics such as what are addictive behaviours, what are the consequences of alcohol, tobacco and drugs consumption, addiction to video games, poor sleep quality due to the time spent in the virtual world, and others. “Health at school” is a project organized based on the criteria defined in the national program of Health Education Promotion (PES) in schools. It was designed by Hospital da Luz Setúbal following requests from schools for information sessions on health themes adapted to the different age groups and education levels. In the context of our commitment of collaboration and support to the community, we have accepted the challenge – which was only possible thanks to the engagement of different services and multidisciplinary teams from this hospital.
