Isabel Vaz, CEO of Luz Saúde, was the special guest on the first day of the EuroAmericas Forum 2025 meeting, which took place this week at Nova SBE, in Carcavelos. With the theme ‘Science of Longevity’ as a backdrop, Isabel Vaz spoke about demographic forecasts, shared concerns and pointed out paths forward. “By 2050, the absolute number of people aged 65 will double worldwide and in Portugal there will be more elderly people than the active population. And everything must be different now.” Explaining that “longevity is influenced by several factors, from social to technological ones,” the CEO of Luz Saúde said that it is not only healthcare that needs to review its priorities and strategies in the face of these scenarios: “We must look holistically at health, in this context of longevity and aging. Health is multifactorial and, when we consider what we should do, we must associate inclusion, safety, quality of life, but also technology and artificial intelligence (AI),” she said, quoted by Jornal Económico, adding: “At Luz Saúde, we are investing in interoperability between doctors, nurses and the rest of the team." Isabel Vaz then shared the stage of the debate, in this 1st session of the Euro Americas Forum 2025, with Cláudia Cavadas, from the University of Coimbra, Ricardo Baptista Leite, CEO of HealthAI, and Rahim Lakhani, CEO, TLG Global. The moderation was handled by George Perry, professor of Neuroscience and Chemistry, at the University of Texas. Under the theme "Longevity: Engine of Global Opportunities," the EuroAmericas Forum 2025 was organized by the Portuguese Diaspora Council and chaired by former European Commissioner and former Prime Minister Durão Barroso. It brought together dozens of guests, including ambassadors accredited to Portugal, businesspeople, and managers. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, and the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, closed the event.
